It is doubtful that spending taxpayers’ huge money on increasing the the number of sports facilities should be the best idea to improve public health. Doing physical exercise being a matter of personal lifestyle, probably little effects will have that idea on people who are too busy to go to sports facilities. While not completely ruling out the necessity of setting up new sports facilities, other measures may be cheaper and more useful.

People need to do physical exercise to stat healthy, but there are not sufficient sports facilities to meet the public demand. Often, it is difficult for people to find a place for that purpose in their neighborhood. This problem is becoming more serious, now that the overall standard of physical health is falling. Obviously, by adding indoor and outdoors establishments of various sporting interests, people will be in shape and in good health. Among other sporting options, for example, those who like indoor exercising can make the best use of facilities, including gyms, tennis courts and dance halls; and as well, they can visit outdoors facilities such as football and baseball courts. If the government’s ultimate purpose is to motivate people, however busy they might be, to do exercise as a lifestyle. Accordingly, it sounds a good idea for governments to invest heavily in making sports facilities widely available for public health.

Of course, the issue of public health goes beyond creating more sports facilities which are not the only environment for physical activities, and there are other measures to encourage people to keep from being sick due to lack of exercise. To give one example, a bicycle-and-pedestrian plan is cheaper and more practical as it envisions the completion of an urban trail network linking many existing trails, nearby housing and job centers. The goal is to provide active urban communities where bicycling and walking are safe and fun. It can be understood that at the bottom of the issue is that the lifestyle of exercising is a personal matter, so people must find time to exercise because if they do not find time now, sooner or later they are likely to find time to become ill. Regarding personal health, governments cannot play a role in improving it. After all, public health is individual health, so there is little that a government could do about an individual’s personal lifestyle

In conclusion, increasing the number of sports facilities is probably not the best way to improve public health and other ways may be applied. Even people need to find time in making exercise a lifestyle. What is the point of numerous sports establishments if people are not interested in doing physical activities?
