  Body A>addiction harms the mind

  Body B>obesity damages the body

  Conclusion>addiction + obesity=unhealthy mind and body=over-use of the Internet

Example Essay by Jeenn Lee Hsieh:

As long as social interaction is concerned, over-using the Internet can be an unhealthy habit. Whereas we heartily welcome the Internet (along with it: Facebook, for instance) as a way of opening up to new communication possibilities worldwide, we should worry about the harmful effects as a result of spending too much time daily on the social media via the Internet. In this age of easy access to information and communication, we cannot help seeing the Internet as a cause for addiction and obesity.

It has been said that Internet addiction may lead to an official mental disorder, as if to suggest those under the bad influence should go to rehabilitation for it (to be sure, if there is wi-fi). Interestingly, experts like to link over-consumption of the Internet technologies to having sleepless nights and double personalities. A case in point is Facebook which can keep you up at night worse than can heat, cold, eye problem, back pain, worries, memories, loneliness, or over-thinking. As well, spending less time with real human beings may strangely cut your face into two different looks. Perhaps that explains in part why most younger people maintain two Facebook accounts, one face for each. In general terms, the more time people use the Internet, the more they need it for information and communication from night to night, and the more they have to struggle with a troubled mind.

According to a recent study, just like excessive eating, excessive Internet usage contributes to gaining weight; and for that matter, juvenile obesity is particularly common. Again, because of their addiction to the Internet, kids and teenagers tend to spend most of their free time or sleeping time on the Internet instead of doing daily exercise like running around and interacting face-to-face with friends and peers. These young people prefer to stay at home and keep a sedentary lifestyle because for them home is where wi-fi connects automatically, every moment of everyday. As a result, they are surrendering themselves to the reality of increasing their waistlines, not to mention that most 'hungry' Internet surfers prefer to eat junk food, and that "you are what you eat". No wonder, doctors have warned that surfing on the Internet does not burn calories and that lack of physical activities may adversely affect the normal development of a healthy body.

In conclusion, the Internet has the potential to corrupt our health, both mentally and physically. It is true that the Internet provides people with a lot of valuable information and social media; and it is also true that access to so much communication and information is worse than just a waste of time. After all, the Internet has become an integral part of our daily life that only by watching our kids grow up will we realize that they will never know a world or a time without the Internet.
