An increasing number of graduates from higher educational institutes may be seen as a sign of social and economic progress. While universities and colleges are turning out more graduates than neeeded, however, it may also mean that this trend is out of step with normal progress. Since to slow this trend is contrary to general aspirations, probably it would be better to allow the job market to play its own game of supply and demand.

To have a university degree is becoming desirable in many societies for more reasons than one. In fact, younger people's will to increase knowledge, enhance social awareness, and prepare for rofessional careers should by no means be discouraged. The majority of modern parents are also anxious to see their children going through college education either because they went to college or because they didn't. It is generally taken for granted that a university degree is a ticket to social and economic success. Nevertheless, there may be a cloudy side about more graduates being produced than suitable job opportunities being timely created. As a result, some graduates are likely to be under-employed and under-paid, let alone some others looking for jobs and finding none.

Truely, the policy to develop a society's higher education should hardly be to blame for the occasional lack of job oppotunities for all. Any employment issue is indexed to social and economic conditions rather than to educational institutions, including colleges and universities. Besides, unemployment may happen more often to unskilled labor than to those who own professional degrees. No one would doubt that the foundation of every society is the education of its youth, with the educational level the higher the better. Furthermore, very educated persons are an asset instead of a burden despite seasonal job problems. College graduates usually play vital roles in social and economic development, so it usually pays for a developing country to have more of the same but always with critical thinking.

To sum up, a society is always in constant demand of human resources with open minds to critical thinking other than some graduates whose only merits are certificates of degrees. The point is therefore not so much the quantity of graduates as the quality of college education. The purpose of higher education is not only preparing a student for a professional career, but also to replace an empty mind with an open one.

Writing in English as a native language

  1. Introduction

As the world develops, the opportunity to achieve a tertiary education is becoming more widespread. This has led many to question whether larger numbers of university graduates is a positive trend. However, others counter than university does more than simply provide employment opportunities. Both of these arguments will be analysed before a reasoned conclusion is reached.

  2. Body paragraph

On the one hand, many feel the rising number of university graduates today causes more harm than good. For example, graduates from Canadian universities are having to wait for employment simply because there are no working opportunities for them to engage in. Despite this, Canadian labour-related job openings are booming. This example shows a disparity that is common in many parts of the world and makes clear that achieving a higher education can actually be the precursor to unemployment. Thus, it is understandable why many support the argument that less emphasis should be put on garnering a university education.

  3. Body paragraph

However, in contrast to this stance, there are those who believe higher education provides more to people than simply job related skill sets. For instance, the analytical skills honed by university graduates in the United States give them a heightened perception and deeper understanding of the world. Although this benefit does little by way of professional development, it gives people the chance to develop and challenge themselves personally. This makes it is clear why many do not agree with reducing the enthusiasm for higher education.

  4. Conclusion

After analysing these stances on university, it is felt the argument to lessen educational emphasis holds little water. It is hoped the world continues to push its young people towards the challenges offered through higher learning.
