  Topic:

  The best way to increase students’ interest in a subject is to teach them the significance of the subject outside of school. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

  Essay:

  Not all school subjects appear to be interesting to all students. Indeed, some students may find some subjects particularly boring or scary in the first place. It is the responsibility of teachers to not only teach students the significance of the subject outside of school but also make that subject interesting.

  Teachers can find a way to increase students’ interest in a subject by relating the subject to their daily lives outside of school. To begin with, students may be interested in the subject if teachers try hard to show the relevance to their future careers. Unfortunately, young people tend to take it for granted that just because they are at school, so they can get ready to get good jobs in the modern workplace. For that matter, it is important for teachers of all school subjects to explain how the information of each subject can be applied in a work environment. Somehow, students should be taught all about how doctors, engineers, IT developers, writers or dancers can use that information to become successful. As an example, even from a subject as boring as literature or history, students can learn the character’s behavior that can be applied to their own lives. However, it is worth mentioning that it is not necessary for teachers to tell a private (probably boring) story in details about themselves but simply tell students how they felt when they got in touch with the subject for the first time, or how they have applied it in daily lives so far.

  Apart from teaching the significance of a subject, teachers should make that subject fun, without threatening the class about a test on the material. On the one hand, even though sometimes some subjects are just not fun, still teachers have to teach this “boring” subject to students. But how about making the learning process a bit more interesting? Perhaps teachers can try to create some kind of competition, or game, that can help students to learn, or maybe even use videos. For example, even a funny cartoon can be what is needed to make students have a laugh and never forget the subject. On the other hand, if teachers scare students by saying that a particular subject is an extremely complex one and that they will be in trouble tomorrow if they do not manage to learn it today, then teachers are bound to fail in getting students interested from the very beginning. It is because students usually overreact under pressure and do not see this warning as an interesting challenge at all. Therefore, teachers should take steps that help students feel they are capable of learning the subject for a better future.

  To sum up, as well as teaching students the significance of the subject outside of school, teachers have to make that subject fun, one way or another. The idea is to let students learn a particular subject, whether they like it or not. In this respect, teaching any subject can either make or break.
