  Topic:

  Which one do you prefer?

(1). a company offering you a job with challenging and interesting projects but less vacation days or (2). another company offering you a job that is not so challenging and interesting but more vacation days. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

  Essay:

There is nothing wrong to relate a well-deserved vacation to an important aspect of happiness because everyone needs a vacation once in while as it helps to relax, refresh and recharge. Are you happier if you take up a job that you like but with less vacation time; or, are you happier if you take up a job that you dislike but with more vacation days? To this question, you may answer for yourself.

More often than not, what matters more to your happiness must be the fun and love of your vocation rather than the length of your vacation. In other words, there would be little or no happiness in working for a company offering you a job that is not so challenging and interesting to you, and that may explain why having more vacation days can only provide a prolonged escape from the boredom of your work. Perhaps you might feel happier when you go on a longer vacation, but unhappiness from being bored is likely to return when you come back to work anyway. Typically, those who prefer a job with more vacation days and less time at work are probably not happy with their jobs in the first place. For them, it is as if happiness is making plans for the next vacation in the middle of the existing one. Jokingly speaking, they might as well need a six-month vacation twice a year since they have neither challenge nor interest at all in the company where they do not enjoy doing what they do.

For your greater happiness, it is better to work for another company that is offering you a job with challenging and interesting projects, even though the boss may allow you to have less vacation time. This does not mean that you do not need vacations just because you find so much happiness in the workplace, but it does mean that, in today’s world, vacations are necessities as a source of happiness, not luxuries as they used to be. Particularly for those who work hard for the love and fun of it, vacations are a chance to take a break from work, see the world and enjoy time with their families and friends. So, the point is that it is necessary to have vacations, but none of these should be unnecessarily long. Of course, you know a good vacation is over when you begin to yearn for your work. As a golden rule, a vacation should be just long enough that your boss misses you, and not long enough for the boss and your co-workers to discover how well they can get along without you.

Now, you have your own answer to the question regarding whether the length of a vacation can affect that kind of happiness which is related to your choice of a job. You would feel happier if you prefer a job that is challenging and interesting, even though vacations are shorter. After all, enough is enough, and a good vacation does not have to be long so as to be happy.
